Oliver Valdés Rey. Havana, November 11, 1981. He studied elementary music at the Manuel Saumell School. Then, in 1996, he entered Amadeo Roldán middle school and graduated in 2000.
He started working at the age of 16 with different groups and in different jazz clubs in Havana. He is considered the new generation of Cuban percussion and is one of the most requested studio drummers in recent years.
He has worked with great musicians and personalities among which can be named: Silvio Rodríguez, Francisco "Pancho" Céspedes, Leo Brouwer, Ibrahim Ferrer, Israel Lopez "Cachao", Manuel Galván, Omara Portuondo, Jane Bunett (Canada), David Murray ( USA), Bobby Carcasses, Isaac Delgado, among others.
He has worked with great percussionists such as: José Luís "Changuito" Quintana, Tata Guines, Don Pancho Térry, Pancho Quinto and Clave y Guaguancó, Tomás "El Panga" Ramos, Andrés Coayo (Omara Portuondo), Giraldo Piloto (Klimax), Samuel Formell (Los Van Van), Enrique Pla (Irakere), Don Famuralo (USA), Chuck Silverman (USA), Memo Acevedo, Aldo Mazza (Canada), Adel Gonzales (Afro Cuban All Star), Yaroldi Abreu (Chucho Valdés).
He currently works with Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodríguez.
