Born in Madrid, Spain, in 1984, he started his music studies at the age of 14 at the music school “Maestro Gombau”, in Madrid. Then, at the age of 16, he made his first debut in a flamenco festival called “Los Almaizares”, playing with José de Luna.    
José is a student of the most renowned Cajon player and flamenco percussionist “El Piraña”, as well as Lucky Losada, Ramón Porrina and Sabú.

jose montana.jpgWhile developing in flamenco, he was also taking Afro-Cuban lessons with Miguel "Anga" Díaz, multi-percussionist Pepe Espinosa, singer and percussionist Pedro "pedrito" Martínez, José Luis Quintana "Changuito", Tata Guines, Giovanni Hidalgo and many others.

 He studied in Cuba with the percurssionist Chucho valdes Yaroldi Abreu and Adonis Panter, and with the percussionist of Yoruba Andabo group.

The biggest inspiration for his music is the multi-instrumentalist and bassist Alain Perez (Paco de Lucía Band), who is also his teacher.

Towards the path of the purest flamenco, he studied in Amor de Dios (Flamenco School in Madrid) taking the rythm of the most interesting part of flamenco: The dance, and developing it with the Cajon. He also began to act with rhythmically virtuous flamenco dancers such as Alfonso Losa, Niño de los Reyes, Juan de Juan, Antonio and Manuel Reyes, Antonio Canales and many others.

He also knows African drums, Bata, Djembe, Dum Dum, Brazilian percussion, Afro-Peruvian and Indian music, which him the way to mix cultures.

He has been playing with all this incredible artists of jazz, flamenco and world music such as:
Alain Pérez, Richard Bona, Jorge Pardo, Chano Domínguez, Antonio Rey, Antonio Serrano, Javier Limón, Antonio Canales, Jerry González, Montse Cortés, Javier Massó Caramelo, Tino di GeraldoEnrique Heredia “El negri”, Israel Fernández, Rafael Amargo, Rojas & Rodríguez, Cristóbal Reyes y Juana Amaya, Amador Rojas, Agustín Carbonell "El Bola", Lara Bello, Sandra Carrasco, Dan Ben Lior, Paco Cruz, Nino de los Reyes La Talegona, David Paniagua y Sonia Olla, Javier Colina, Diego Guerrero, Rycardo Moreno, Aleph (Libano), Yelsy Heredia, Pete Lockett, Yuri Juárez.

Now, as an artist of De Gregorio Cajon, he performs in all the best international percussion festivals, such as:
