Born on September 2, 1980, in Florham Park, New Jersey, United States. Mark Guiliana is a drummer, composer, educator, producer and founder of Beat Music Productions; through which he launched My Life Starts Now and Beat Music: The Los Angeles Improvisations, as conductor.
His conceptual approach to the instrument is also showed in Mehliana, the electric duo with Brad Mehldau on keyboards and synthesizers. The band's debut album, Taming the Dragon (Nonesuch), was released in early 2014.
During the last decade, Guiliana's extensive tour has taken him to six continents with artists such as: Meshell Ndegeocello, Gretchen Parlato, Avishai Cohen, David Bowie, Matisyahu, Lionel Loueke, Now vs. Now, Dhafer Youssef and his own bands, Beat Music y Heernt.
Mark Guiliana has been part of more than 30 recordings until now. Guiliana has been described by The New York Times as “a drummer around whom a cult of admiration has formed”, meanwhile, The Time Out London says: “What happens when you add hard bop drum masters Elvin Jones and Art Blakey to a 1980s Roland 808 drum machine, divide the result by J Dilla and then multiply to the power of Squarepusher? Answer: Mark Guiliana”.
